The Richest Man in Babylon

Book Review by Leo Trevino

“Our actions can be no wiser than our thoughts…our thinking can be no wiser than our understanding” – excerpt from THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON

WOW, what a powerful and profound statement! This quote is right at the beginning of the book and really sets the tone, living up to the reputation of this wonderful book.

Consider a classic by many individuals on the fundamentals of financial management, The Richest Man in Babylon by George S Clason is one book you want to have in your library.

For many, money and finances can be taboo. It can even be something that is overlooked compared to everything else we are managing in our day to day lives. But the reality of our financial future is something one shouldn’t’ take lightly.

In this book, you will find many key suggestions, and who knows, perhaps the motivation and inspiration necessary to finally get your personal finances in order for your future!

Here are my key takeaways…

  • If you have ever heard the term “pay yourself first,” this book is the root of such advice. 10% of your compensation is the minimum you should be “saving” every time you get compensated.
  • This money is like a slave that works for you, and it’s children, that is the money that is made from the money, are also salves that work for you.
  • Advice comes freely, but be careful what you accept! Seek the specialist for specific advice.
  • Three basic rules of money; Live off less that you earn, seek competent advice, and make your money earn more money, and those earning earn more money.
  • Opportunity waste no time for those who are unprepared. Set realistic goals and achieve them.
  • Don’t neglect income for the future, start putting away now.
  • Men of action are favored by the goddess of good luck.
  • We can’t afford to be without adequate protection such as insurance, emergency funds, and sound investments. In the book this advice is explained in a story about how Babylon held strong against being attacked!
  • Where determination is, a way can be found! Do you have a slaves mindset or a freeman’s?

What I absolutely love about this book it is it’s inspired by ancient clay tablets believed to be from Babylon itself! Hence, the title of the book. After transcribing the tablets, they turned out to be financial records from a citizen in Babylon!

The ancient way and advice to wealth is still very prevalent in modern times, and we can take these fundamental teachings and apply it for the health of our financial future!

Don’t miss this one, its a must read!
